Things that change the math
Furnished costs more. These budgets assume a furnished one-bedroom (two-bedroom for couples) in a neighborhood popular with foreigners. Unfurnished places on a 12-month lease often run 30–40% less.
The coast needs air conditioning. In Cartagena, Santa Marta and Barranquilla, the power bill can double or triple once the AC runs.
Health cover depends on your visa. Resident and M visa holders can join the public EPS system, paying a share of declared income. Visitors usually need private or international insurance.
The coffee region is the value pick. Armenia, Pereira and Manizales cost about half of Medellín's El Poblado, with a mild climate and an airport each.
